Your suppport helped Nadiya find safety and hope
Dear RoomSponsor,
Thanks to your continued generosity, young people like Nadiya are finding the support, stability and care they desperately need.
When Nadiya came to the UK at just 14, she and her mum were seeking safety and a better future. But after years in difficult accommodation and the painful breakdown of her relationship with her mother, Nadiya found herself alone and struggling. Her mental health had severely declined, her OCD had intensified, and she was left without a safe place to call home.
That’s when she came to one of our YMCAs in Wales.
At first, Nadiya was anxious and overwhelmed. She had a panic attack upon arriving and spent two days cleaning her new room. But slowly, with the patient support of staff upon arriving at YMCA, a private space she could make her own, and access to counselling, things started to change.
Nadiya is now working hard to manage her OCD and is making real progress in therapy. She has begun to talk about returning to work in security, a career she had only just started before she became unwell. She’s also built a strong connection with her support worker, Jamie, and has found confidence through life skills training, especially in budgeting, which she now sees as a real strength.
DID YOU KNOW?
In Wales, the most common reasons young people come to YMCA for help are seeking asylum, mental health difficulties, and family relationship breakdowns — all of which Nadiya faced.
RoomSponsor donations like yours go directly towards helping young people access vital services across England and Wales, for as long as they need them.
Thank you for being there for Nadiya and for so many others like her.
