Hello!
To all my Roomsponsors – thank you so much for all your cards! I am going to buy some more pin tacks so I can put them all up! They were really heart -warming to receive and helped me through a few rough patches!
I’m not sure if I told you about my application for volunteering abroad? It was to go on a 10-week trip to Tanzania with Raleigh International where I would be helping to build a water sanitation system. I thought it would be a great chance for me to build some skills and step outside of my comfort zone.
I was meant to go in February, but the trip was medically deferred until July because my doctor was cautious about me going away for a few months without her supervision of my mental health. It was a massive blow for me because I had put a lot of preparation into the trip and had fundraised for it too, but I’m looking ahead to the summer.
I’ve just been trying to see the positive side of it all and I continue to keep up the fight as usual. To keep my mind busy I’ve been doing lots of volunteering for YMCA and some for the Scouts. It gives me something to do and helps with my professional experience, which is always good.
I’ve also been working on a music project and an arts award, and I recently completed the NCE Level 1 Employability award. I’m still not sure what I’d like to do in the future work-wise but having some basic skills is a good start. Besides that and my volunteering, when I get the time, I love listening to rock, soul and rap music.
Sorry there isn’t more to update you on right now. I feel like I’ve come a long way since I last spoke to you, but it is still a gradual step-by-step process. The delay to my Tanzania trip was a bit of a setback, but I’m determined I’ll get there!
Hopefully next time I speak to you I will be ready for my trip abroad and will have lots of exciting news. Until then, I want to say thanks again for all your support; I feel really blessed to have such wonderful sponsors!!!
Best wishes,
Rachel! X
