Hi Roomsponsors,
Here’s an update on Bradley, Molly and Terry who you may have read about previously:
Bradley
Bradley tragically lost his mum to cancer when he was just nine years old. After his mum passed away, he moved to live with his older sister. Devastatingly, only two years later, his sister was also diagnosed with cancer. She died shortly afterwards, and Bradley was taken into care
“I was distraught when I found out I had lost another family member to cancer.”
At 18 Bradley was told he had to leave the children’s home as he was no longer considered a child. With nowhere else to go, this was an incredibly scary time for him.
Thankfully, he was referred to YMCA and was given the safe and stable home he needed. During his stay, Bradley remained in school, demonstrating his amazing drive and determination to build his future. He is still in college now, studying a Level 3 Food and Beverage course, with the goal of eventually running his own business one day.
We are thrilled to tell you that Bradley’s hard work has paid off and he is applying to university to study International Business Management and Events. Thank you for supporting Bradley to build his future.
Clare, Bradley’s keyworker, is proud of everything he’s achieved:
“Since Bradley has moved to YMCA he has been a pleasure to work with, he has settled well and he has also been very supportive to other young people. Bradley is always smiling and singing which puts a smile on everyone’s face. Bradley has shown all the other young people that life can always get better when coming through struggles in life.”
Molly
Molly became homeless when she was just 17 after having to run away from an abusive home. With no one to turn to, she ended up sleeping on park benches.
“It was really scary and cold – I didn’t have a sleeping bag so I used to put all of my clothes on to try and stay warm.”
On her arrival at YMCA, she was withdrawn and reserved, but gradually through ongoing support from her keyworker, Kirstie, Molly found her confidence again.
Despite everything she’d had to endure, Molly was determined to stay in college. Thanks to her hard work, she was offered a place at university to study Film Production.
Kirstie told us how pleased she is that Molly has done so well in overcoming everything she’s been through:
“Molly’s focus and dedication to gain her place at university, studying a subject she is passionate about is inspirational, especially when thinking about all of the barriers and difficulties she has faced.”
Molly is currently in her second year of her film production course at university, and is closer to her aspiration to work in the film industry in the future. She is thriving and this was possible because of kind supporters like you.
Terry
Terry was homeless for six years before he moved to YMCA. During the time he was homeless, he ended up sleeping rough on the beach.
“Sleeping rough out in the open on the beach was really scary, and I was often afraid that something bad was going to happen.”
Since moving to YMCA, everything has changed for the better. He finally has somewhere safe and secure to live, and support to build a better life. Mark, Terry’s keyworker, has been helping him manage his depression, something he has always struggled with.
Incredible supporters like you make it possible for Terry to receive ongoing support and build inspiring plans for his future. Thanks to your help, Terry is able to overcome the difficulties he has faced, and work towards a brighter future.
Terry is now doing a YMCA New Beginnings Course where he is learning essential life skills, like cooking, budgeting, Maths and English, and hopes to go back to college later in the year.
Things are looking promising for Terry and he is so grateful to be receiving the help he so desperately needed:
“I now have YMCA supporting me with everything I need help with. Thank you for everything you’ve done for us”
In these uncertain times, it is more important than ever to do all we can to support young people so they can continue to make steady progress. Supporters like you are ensuring the needs of vulnerable young people are not ignored. Thank you so much for believing in them and helping to support their dreams of a brighter future.
Best wishes,
The Roomsponsor Team
